Upon completing his MS and PhD at the University of California in 1990, Vincent Saubestre joined Total as an R&D engineer. Two years ago, Vincent was assigned to structure Total’s Research Center dedicated to oil sands, returning to Calgary after more than 40 years.
The common thread underpinning Vincent’s career with Total has been to take on new challenges of increasing complexity in a variety of cultural environments around the world: research and engineering in France, offshore operations in Norway, production in Congo, and business development as Deputy Chief Representative in the U.A.E. In November 2007, Vincent moved to Calgary from Argentina, one of Total’s largest producing affiliate, where he held in succession the positions of HSE Manager and Senior VP Operations.
A product of both the North American and European education systems, Vincent is a graduate of École Polytechnique (1982) and of the École Nationale Supérieure des Techniques Avancées (1984) in Paris. When not working on finding new ways to develop sustainable oil sands technology (his day job), Vincent captains and manages The Voyageurs, Total Canada’s hockey team, in the wee hours of the night.
